Hoverboards and Hip-Hop At The Nordic North’s Premiere Hip-Hop Festival

Hoverboards, heat and hip-hop. Blockfest ended off a hectic and satisfying summer festival season in Tampere, Finland with the largest hip-hop festival in Northern Europe. For two days, the hot sun spiced the crowded Blockfest festival grounds across the famous Laukonsilta bridge, as live performances by Wiz Khalifa, TI, Mobb Deep and Young Thug set it all off.

Ty Dolla $ign and his green hoverboard and bottle of liquor were a drunken scene from the stage to the after party, while Young Thug’s first European adventure proved to be worth the extended wait as he premiered new music. T.I’s setlist of classics was a nostalgic party-starter, but it was Wiz Khalifa’s 90 minute headlining set on day one that left the lasting impression. Doused in pyrotechnics and energy-induced antics, Wiz took the stage and delivered an electric show that saw the skinny rockstar sprint down the runway stage and dive into the crowd, only to make his way back up in perfect cue to end off the performance with “See You Again.”

Twice the size that it was last year, Blockfest is only getting bigger, once again proving that hip-hop has a home in the Nordic north.
